ADAPTIVE BRAKE braking system The integral ADAPTIVE BRAKE system improves ride comfort and safety by helping to execute critical braking manoeuvres with the basic function of the ABS anti-lock braking system and making difficult driving situations easier with convenience functions. These include the HOLD function which acts like a parking brake and can be activated with a short depression of the gas pedal. The HOLD function then stops the vehicle from rolling unintentionally when stopped at a light or in stop-and-go traffic.

PRE-SAFE® occupant protection system PRE-SAFE® recognises the danger of accident early on and activate safety systems which can reduce the change of injury for vehicle occupants. To accomplish this PRE-SAFE® continually monitors the sensor data from the systems such as ESP® and BAS and identifies events such as noticeable understeering or oversteering and emergency stops. If a critical driving situation should occur, the systems respond within fractions of a second. The belt tensioners are activated, the electrically adjustable seats are moved to a favourable position in the event of a collision and the side windows and the sliding/tilting sunroof are automatically closed.

Integrated safety concept The integral safety system is a package of technical elements and measures which can protect the vehicle occupants during dangerous situations as well as before, during and after an accident and also reduces the consequences of an accident. In the first step the following systems work to identify dangers even as they approach or provide assistance in critical driving situations: ADAPTIVE BRAKE, tyre pressure loss warning system, adaptive brake lights, rain sensor, ESP® including ABS/ASR, BAS and AIRMATIC DC. If an accident can be detected ahead of time then PRE-SAFE® goes into action: the reversible belt tensioners improve their hold, the side windows and sliding sunroof automatically close and the front seats are moved into an optimum position. During an accident the occupants may be protected through numerous airbags and restraint systems. After an accident the doors and windows are automatically unlocked or opened and the engine is switched off. The fuel supply is also interrupted and the hazard warning lamps are also activated. All this occurs automatically.
