Thanks to a combination of sophisticated shock absorbers, elastic springs and precisely located rigid axles, the G-Class is more than a match for almost any terrain. In contrast to conventional independent wheel suspension systems, the axle housing is raised automatically when a wheel drives over a large stone. The G-Class can negotiate gradients of up to 80%, remains stable on side gradients of up to 54% and can drive through water up to a depth of 0.5 metres.
The G-Class is equally at home on the road thanks to its supreme handling based on perfect harmonization between the chassis, transmission, powertrain and wheel suspension. Enhanced active safety and stability are provided by the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) and Brake Assist (BAS). The G-Class is the only vehicle in the world to offer the Electronic Traction System (4ETS) as well as three fully lockable differentials.
